May I ask if your studies have come from fist hand, or second hand need?
Mine were from second hand need. And yeah, they call it personality change. It really doesn’t look like it once you go a little deeper. It looks like core personality, without the ‘should’ of reason. And the things they would never do sober, are indeed the things they feel emotionally but are able to over ride with reason. Mood swing and depression yes. Conviction change? While trying to talk to alcoholics drunk, they never surprised me with a conviction they didn’t hold when sober.
Since we’re on the topic of addiction now, I feel I have to mention I have come to the conclusion the theory of it being a disease of the body or brain makes little sense. After my own experiences and looking at the treatment options and their respective success rates, I have to side with the Rat Park experiments. When it comes to any sort of addiction, opiates, alcohol and even things like gambling, is a social issue.
